Year 1 Fuel up with Fredge

Our Year 1 classes today listened to Fredge and how to fuel up our bodies for learning.

Our Bodies Need: Food, Sleep, Water, Exercise, and Love

We wondered how our Mara Kai was doing, so we went for a walk and discovered 2 things!

Firstly, our carrots had no space to grow, so they were small. Ms Everitt and Ms Daniel pulled out every second one to give them more room.

Secondly, we had saved one carrot to go to seed, so we picked it to gather the seeds for our next planting.

Lastly, we had a try of the tiny carrots!

Year Five Boosting our Endophines

We made our own badge promoting active travel as a way to improve our mental health.

Being Kind with The Youth Project

This term, Claire from the Youth Project will be working with all our tamariki to explore what kindness is and how we can be kind to our environment and the community.  Each year group will take a different action to care for our tangata.

We learnt that there are 3 aspects of kindness:

1. Being friendly

2. Being generous

3. Being considerate

All these things are FREE.

28/4 YEAR FIVE

We spent an hour making a pipe cleaner flower bouquet and card for the elderly community or local volunteers. We were kind to our buddies and worked hard to collaborate.

It was a wonderful opportunity to show kindness in our community.

29/4 YEAR ONE

Year One created a pillow box with a pocket hug inside.  They worked creatively to make their boxes beautiful. They were able to give their wooden pocket hug a BIG HUG before they popped them into the packet. The boxes are going to be delivered with Bellyful meals to families with young children.  We're learning to think about other people and to do things each day to brighten someone's day. Well done Year Tahi!

Travelwise Leaders Activate!

Today the Travelwise Leaders met with Police Officer Matt, Ms Daniel and Helene & Alice from Auckland Transport.  We wanted to  look at how to promote safe healthy travel to and from school.

After introductions we talked about the challenge of getting tamariki out of cars and encouraging parents to drop off safely.  Skilling Place was talked about as an issue for unsafe stopping.

Some ideas we had for actions were:

- Wednesday Challenge

- Safety at the school gate flyers

- holding up signs for five days - broken yellow signs - road safety week in Week 3 - sign up

- posters

- make a video

- skit in whole school assembly

- assembly - class introduction

- meet Mondays at lunchtime

- collaborate with Eco Warriors and Road Patrollers

- road safety week Fancy Feet

- MOE video

Next we went to look at Skilling Place and shoot some video footage.

We're looking forward to joining The Wednesday Challenge and running Road Safety Week in Term 2.  Stay tuned for more details!

Year One Eat a Rainbow

Today Year One learnt about the importance of eating five or more serves of  fruits & vegetables a day.  We learnt a serve is the size of our fist.  Eating a rainbow of different colours means our bodies and getting all types of vitamins and minerals.

We explored the mara and tried green silverbeet and red apples.  Next we drew different coloured fruits and vegetables and read a "Fredge 5Aday" story.  Lastly we finished off with banana yoga and a fun salad colour in.  What fruits and vegetables will you eat today?

Room 2 & 3 Explore Ladybirds
