Year Three's Matariki Kumara Harvest

 It's a very special time of year; Matariki.  That means it's time to harvest the kumara that we planted in koanga/spring.  We learnt about Whakaoterangi, who bought kumara from the Pacific Islands to Aotearoa.  We learnt how this root vegetable is a toanga.  Then we watched this video to see how Chinese refugee's Mr & Mrs Gock helped saved the kumara.

Then it was time to get MUDDY We worked hard to dig up ENORMOUS kumaras.  Afterwards, we even got to try them roasted with salt & olive oil. DELICIOUS  Some tamariki had seven helpings!

Just by coincidence it's also international EAT YOUR VEGETABLES DAY.  We certainly did that!
